Big Board Sports

Big Board Sports is an “all-in-one platform for coaches, student-athletes and their parents to consolidate, connect, and communicate critical aspects of the recruiting and team management process.”

Objective

Let athletes, coaches, parents and recruiters connect throughout the athlete recruitment process.

Process

Research and challenges

Research included discussions with stakeholders who deeply understand college athlete recruiting. We combined what they told us with in-depth research into competing applications, to understand the needs those services leave unmet.

Athlete recruiting proved more complicated than I expected. It took a lot of conversation and research for the team and me to grasp the need for such an application. The discovery phase was long and required patience, and it produced a great product in the end.

Design and development

With our research as a backdrop, we created in-depth user personas and stories that became the baseline for the feature set. Once the MVP features were set, I created user flows for each of them.

After stakeholders approved the flows, I moved to comps that brought the application to life. These high-resolution prototypes guided development and were an integral part of investor pitches.

The education screen, where users show grades, honors and other details.

Results and impact

The application gained an immediate core user base of student athletes and their parents. Schools and staff then joined as they saw how easy it made managing their recruitment of those athletes.

Big Board Sports continues to see growth and usage today.
