Mission Cloud AI Chatbot (Cloudia)

Mission Cloud’s AI chatbot is an internal tool that helps employees find information from HR, about projects and more.

Objective

Create a chatbot that integrates with HR and other company tools, so employees save time and find what they need.

Process

Research and challenges

We reviewed AI chatbot applications such as ChatGPT and Claude to see how they handle large amounts of data. We also interviewed and surveyed employees to learn which services would be most valuable in their daily work.

The biggest challenge was displaying a wide variety of data types succinctly in a simple chatbot. We were also asked to go from zero to MVP very quickly, which meant many discussions about how many components to launch with. We settled on a simple text chatbot that could be expanded over time.

Design and development

The design went through a few iterations before landing on a full-screen, minimal layout. We considered a helper that lives in the bottom corner of the screen, as on many websites today, but a standalone application suited our needs better.

The full-screen view is easy to extend with more components and left room to be more creative with them. Many of those components are in active development.

Results and impact

The application launched in early 2024 as part of Mission’s AI initiatives, applying many of the machine learning principles the company sells to its clients. It shipped quickly and is still in use today, to positive reviews.

About 80% of the company adopted the application, and it has many users each day.
