Real Estate AI Legal Portfolio Management

Real estate has a great AI opportunity. This product uses AI to help people in property management and real estate scan, edit and manage the large volume of legal documents they handle every day.

The Legal AI platform showing content extracted from a PDF, with legal terms and abstracts highlighted.

Objective

Create a platform that uses AI and machine learning to make understanding and editing legal documents in the property and real estate industry much easier.

Process

Research and challenges

I took inspiration from document management platforms to create something that makes it easy to go deeper and deeper into sets of information and documents. For other parts of the application, I worked with the client on simple hand-sketched wireframes, nailing down features from their knowledge of real estate law.

The biggest challenge was that little in the market does what the client envisions. Beyond document management, inspiration was hard to find, but working with our internal team I arrived at something we believe works well.

Defining a term within the extracted legal content.

Design and development

After research and discovery, I used our hand-sketched wireframes to build a high-fidelity prototype. It gave the client a springboard for understanding how the product could work in a seemingly untapped market.

Development is on hold. The designs and prototypes are complete, with an explainer document in Figma for developers when work begins.

Choosing another document to view beside the extracted content.
A table of every property in a manager’s portfolio.
A table of the residents in a single building or address.

Results and impact

The project has yet to be developed, but it taps into a space that can use AI and machine learning to real advantage. My hope is that the design proves a strong foundation, with easy-to-use features and new ideas.

The client was very happy with the prototype and is using it to secure funding for further product development.
